Kiss of Crimson The Midnight Breed Book 2 Lara Adrian Books Reviews

As a die hard BDB fan - its getting a little tough to keep the comparisons under control - they're starting to interfere with my reading experience a little. BUT - I do like Dante the best so far. I appreciate the world Lara has created and know how challenging it is to keep that monster in check once you've got it loose.
I'm not one to dissect everything - I either love it or leave it - and big, bad, hot, handsome, alpha type guys, win me over every damn time.
Chase is tugging at my heart stings, but ( nooooooo) I really dislike, weak, needy female leads like Elise. I know Chase is gonna develop into a (ohmygod I almost wrote Brother!) he's gonna be a warrior for sure!

Tegan is too much like my Zadist in the BDB - so I already have him pegged, and my heart ready for the sweet torment we'll have on his ride.
So much talent and imagination! I wish you're series hadn't intersected so closely to the other one. You deserve all the spotlight for your hard work - and your loveable -hot characters deserve so much more too.
The bad news is that I waited forever to start this series. The good news, for me anyway is that I have lots of books to keep me busy while I play catch up. Which just proves, once again, that procrastination isn't always a bad thing.

I have to confess that I didn't really pay much attention to Dante in Kiss of Midnight. I'm not sure why, other than there was a lot covered in that book, like most first books in a series. I can guarantee that when I re-read Kiss of Midnight (notice I said `when' not `if') I will pay closer attention. With his background and his `gift' it's no wonder he never expected to bind himself to anyone. Seeing how much he unconsciously longed for it while knowing it was something he could never have was pure torture.

Tess was a great character and there was a lot more to her than expected. Things unraveled slowly in Kiss of Crimson. There were twists and turns and mysteries behind a lot of characters that Lara Adrian kept under wraps for a fairly long time. I kind of liked that approach. It kept things interesting and I wanted to know what the big secrets were bad enough that this was a hard one to put down.

Plenty of romance, plenty of action, a fair amount of heart break and even a few tears. Kiss of Crimson pretty much had it all. The only complaint I may have is that things were tied up kind of fast at the end. The outcome was inevitable, but it just seemed to come too soon after the climax for me. Kind of minor in the scheme of things but it's just something that bugged me just a little.

There were a few new characters introduced in Kiss of Crimson and Lara Adrian set up the next book, Midnight Awakening pretty well. Tegan is the next Breed warrior featured and his potential mate is definitely going make things interesting - for everyone. She's peaked my interest anyway.
Love the series. This book was really slow reading the first half then at about 70% through it got exciting and it was hard to put down. The first of the book was things that you needed for the whole story but it was written a little too dry for me. I seemed to skip over a lot of paragraphs that were just descriptions of different things. This is a re-read for me but it's been so long since I first read it, it's like it's all new with a few things that ring a bell. I will read the next book because the series is really interesting and good. Romance and sex doesn't really happen until at least about half way into the book so that is one of the slow reasons I think. It is worth a read tho.
Kiss of Crimson is the second book in what was to originally be a trilogy series the Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian. I enjoyed how much more she explored the world and answered some of the questions I had from the first book.

One big question I had was what would happen if a Breed Vampire accidentally drank the blood of a Breedmate and so was now tied to her for the rest of his life. This very idea formed the premise of the conflict between Dante, a Breed Warrior, and Tess, a Veterinarian and Breedmate. The author did a wonderful job telling a story about love blossoming and very different personalities learning to accommodate each other. Lara Adrian put her characters in very relatable emotional situations many people feel of having to learn to accept what has changed in one’s life and yet introduced was an intriguing paranormal twist to this topic.

The overall series suspense also ramps up and Lara Adrian does a commendable job in tying secondary characters into the existing framework of her world. She spins the threads of her story to use secondary characters to drive the plots which makes the overall story more interesting than just another vampire romance novel with a predictable villain and angsty story line.

Kiss of Crimson exceeds the expectations of a second book in a series by being able to complete its own intriguing love story while still driving the larger story to a new level of tension.
SPOILERS
I know that I'm only on chapter 8, but I cannot help my total dislike for Dante. He knows that he has a mate, but stills goes and cheats on her. He's a total douche. As a breedmate, she is supposed to be special and taken care of, but he could care less, and just goes to get his rocks off. No thanks! The author could have him fight his attraction or deny his responsibility in many different ways. I just don't know if I can read any more...
