The ending of this book is the most romantic scenario I have ever read! This author gives us the most beautiful romance wrapped up with drama, humor and mystery. This intriguing plot keeps the reader flipping the pages with eager anticipation, while also making the reader want to savor every moment. Lorret's characters are unique, fun and complex. The H and h are perfect for each other. Every encounter sizzles. The author gives us the understanding needed to fully relate to all the characters, the good and the bad. The dialogue makes one want to join in, too. Vivienne Lorret is my new favorite romance author. We need more of her wonderful stories!

When I started Vivienne Lorret's Winning Miss Wakefield my first thought, "this reminds me of Cruel Intentions". For of you who don't know that movie, Cruel Intentions was made in the 90s and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Phillippe. Anyway, the revenge plot and the wager in Winning Miss Wakefield is what reminded me of Cruel Intentions.

Miss Merribeth Wakefield ended up finding out some devastating news. The guy she has been waiting for forever decides he's in love with someone else. I know tragic. So, Lady Eve Sterling decides to take her under her wing and help Merribeth get her man back. All she has to do is flirt with a rake.

Now Eve is diabolical in the story, and you don't see how manipulative she is until the end. Granted you see hints throughout the story. Now Eve will do whatever it takes to takedown who gets in her way, especially her nephew, Marquess of Knightswold (aka Bane).

Bane has no wish to marry or have children. Actually he would love to see the line die with him. However, Eve presents him with a temptation that he can't seem to resist, Merribeth.

These are the key players in the house party that Eve is hosting at her family estate. All Bane has to do is resist bedding anyone while at the house party and he gets the information he desires. If he fails Eve gets his prize possession. Sounds like an easy task. Okay, maybe night not.

I loved Winning Miss Wakefield. It's fueled by revenge and diabolical deeds, and one person is stuck in middle, Merribeth. I love how Vivienne brings all this together to bring I don't know how to describe it. It was amazing. I love the Cruel Intention feel, and I don't think that was the intention of the author. However, it worked. So, if you are looking for a read that has revenge and diabolical plans, you might want to checkout Winning Miss Wakefield.

In my opinion, I think it is best to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Tempting Mr. Weatherstone A Wallflower Wedding Novella (Originally appeared in the e-book anthology FIVE GOLDEN RINGS) (Wallflower Wedding Series) is apparently the first book, however, since it was a novella it is designated as book #0.5. Next in the series was Daring Miss Danvers The Wallflower Wedding Series Book #1. Actually, I could never find the order of the books by looking on since the books don't appear to be numbered along with the titles. I checked on Goodreads to find the series order. Since I had not read the first books in the series before I delved into this one, perhaps I was at a bit of a disadvantage because I felt a wee bit lost.

This characters in this book and I never really clicked. The story seemed rather contrived, some parts lacked believability and the three pages spent dealing with the color of embroidery thread had me "losing" the thread of the storyline. Sorry, just didn't enjoy this book. I didn't find the heroine interesting - the hero, yes - but again, their initial meeting was just really. not. captivating... I couldn't find myself caring about the H/h and their relationship. I might go back and give the first books in this series a whirl and perhaps I will better understand the elements driving the characters' lives and thoughts in this book.
Merribeth is practically ruined after her beau of five years deserts her for another. A friend puts it in her head kissing a rake would help her be more confident. If only that rake weren't Lord Knightswold. He truly is irresistable, yet he's determined to remain a bachelor and never have an heir. Bane, aka Lord Knightswold, can't seem to stay away from Merribeth. So, he'll help her lure her ex back by teacher her to flirt.
Merribeth just wants to be herself and not worry about what the Ton thinks. Though she didn't truly want her ex back she felt it was the only way to save herself. She has a true strength and fun wit that kept me attached to her story from beginning to end. In this story Bane is the willful one. Yet he's so charming and caring that it's easily overlooked for this handsome Lord. Merribeth and Bane gravitate to each other throughout the story whether intentional or not. Their attraction is explosive and undeniable.
If you enjoy a super steamy historical romance with an unlikely couple I recommend Winning Miss Wakefield.
