Overcome Your Fear of Homeschooling with Insider Information Sandra K Cook Sharon Honeycutt Books
I tore through this book because I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about homeschooling. I love how almost every book I read about homeschooling the author usually begins by saying homeschooling wasn't their first choice because it wasn't mine either. I had dreams about putting my children on the bus and letting them go to school but I don't think my boys will receive a good education in public school and we really can't afford private school at this time. Sandra Cook talks a lot about her oldest son and his dyslexia and the fact that he is one of the main reasons why she started homeschooling to begin with but that is not all this book is about. Yes, she does center around children who are considered to have learning disabilities but I found so much information in this book that I have several pages bookmarked so I can refer back to them. The more I read about homeschooling the more I am thinking that it is the right path for my boys and my family at this time. I love the section about tips on how to figure out what type of learner your child is and about how to homeschool for less. I am not sure how informational this book would be to a seasoned homeschooling parent but for someone like me who is just starting out, this book is a great read and very informative. I recommend you give it a go.Tags : Amazon.com: Overcome Your Fear of Homeschooling with Insider Information (9781490921228): Sandra K. Cook, Sharon Honeycutt: Books,Sandra K. Overcome Your Fear of Homeschooling with Insider Information Sandra K Cook Sharon Honeycutt Books Reviews
This book is a "must read" for any parent or grandparent who might educate their child at home. Sandra Cook is a professional who presents her beliefs in a well-balanced, thoughtful manner. She discusses many aspects of children's homeschooling experiences, including academic curriculum, social opportunities, and community involvement. Sandra includes with grace and precision many "living examples" in each chapter and with honesty she outlines her successes and failures. The value of this book is initially inspirational, but the second and third read will serve as an excellent resource. I suggest that every family having even an interest in home education would benefit in many ways by reading her book.

I've just started my homeschooling journey and so I'm looking for every nugget of knowledge that I can gain from those who've gone before me. This author provides a wealth of knowledge, in not just what she has done but about several of the options that are out there. I think this book would be very helpful for parents of upper elementary and middle schoolers.
I've pretty much already made up my mind about whether or not to homeschool, but this book helped reassure me. Lots of helpful tips and resources. Also a good perspective as it comes from somebody who didn't homeschool right away or ever plan to homeschool. Gives a nice overview and idea or feel of what homeschooling will be like for those that haven't made up their minds yet with lots of topics covered.
This book has lots of helpful information on how to successfully homeschool, and is guided towards those on the fence regarding homeschooling.
I liked the suggestions on websites and curriculums. However, some of the websites listed are not online anymore for some reason.
Excellent source, though, and the price in a is very accessible!
This book is a comprehensive, detailed look at questions about homeschooling. It is a fantastic resource for those who are curious about it, considering it, and even veteran homeschoolers! Mrs. Cook has extensive training and education and has homeschooled for years so she is very qualified to talk about it. She also has a website and other resources online. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in homeschooling!
There were a few helpful insights that might help me dive into the journey for homeschooling but all the public school bashing took away from the other content of the book. This is actually one reason I hesitate to homeschool because the judgement I've experienced has been so harsh of us public school moms. This gives a very positive view of homeschooling but not a ton of practical tips that reassures me that I can do this.
I had homeschooled my children for a few years, and it was mostly a wonderful experience, but situations changed and they attended public school for a year. We learned from testing that the learning difficulties my son was having were indeed dyslexia, dysgrahpia and discalculia as we had suspected(as well as others). Situations have changed again and I must return to homeschooling, and I admit quite a bit of trepidation at tackling my children's education again! This book has been my cheerleader, easing my doubts, reminding me that I CAN DO THIS! No one knows my kids like I do, and Ms Cook has helped me get my homeschooling mojo back!
